Media Messages
Supported multimedia types in WhatsApp: images, videos, audios, documents, stickers, and locations.
Media Messages
Trochai supports all multimedia types allowed by Meta's WhatsApp API. You can send and receive images, videos, audios, documents, stickers, and locations directly from the inbox.
Supported types
Images
Images are displayed directly inside the message bubble with a maximum display size. If the image can't load (for example, if the link expired), a gray image placeholder icon is shown as a fallback.
Accepted formats for sending: JPEG, PNG, WebP
When receiving: Trochai downloads and displays the image automatically within the chat bubble.
Videos
Videos are displayed as an embedded player inside the bubble, with native browser playback controls (play, pause, volume, fullscreen).
Accepted formats for sending: MP4, 3GP
When receiving: the video is shown with playback controls directly in the conversation.
Audios
Audio messages are displayed as a compact player with playback controls. This includes both voice notes and audio files.
Accepted formats for sending: AAC, MP3, OGG, AMR
When receiving: an audio player with playback controls is shown.
Automatic voice transcription
When a contact sends a voice message and the bot is enabled for that conversation, Trochai automatically transcribes the audio to text. The transcription appears below the audio player as italic gray text.
This transcription allows the bot to understand and respond to voice messages, instead of asking the contact to type. Transcription is processed in Spanish automatically.
Voice transcription works automatically when the bot is enabled. No additional configuration is required. If transcription fails, the bot will ask the contact to type their message.
Documents
Documents are displayed as a download link with the filename. Clicking opens the file in a new tab.
Accepted formats for sending: PDF (from Trochai's composer)
When receiving: all formats accepted by WhatsApp are supported (PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, etc.).
Stickers
Received stickers are displayed as small images (maximum 150x150 pixels) without a bubble background. If the sticker can't load, a fallback icon is shown.
Sending stickers from Trochai is not currently supported. Stickers sent by contacts are displayed correctly.
Locations
When a contact shares their location, it's displayed as a link to Google Maps with the coordinates (latitude and longitude). Clicking opens Google Maps in a new tab with the location pinned.
Sending media files from Trochai
You can only send media files when the 24-hour window is open. If the window is closed, you'll need to use a template message first.
To send a media file:
- Click the paperclip icon (attach) in the message composer.
- Select a file from your device.
- A preview will appear:
- Images: image thumbnail
- Other files: paperclip icon with the filename and size in KB
- Optionally, add a text message as a caption.
- To cancel, click the X on the preview.
- Click send.
The file is first uploaded to Meta's servers and then sent to the contact. The entire process happens in the background.
Preview in the conversation list
In the conversation list, media messages are shown with descriptive labels:
| Type | Preview |
|---|---|
| Image | [Image] |
| Video | [Video] |
| Audio | [Audio] |
| Document | [Document] |
| Sticker | [Sticker] |
| Location | [Location] |
| Template | [Template] |
| Interactive | [Interactive] |
If the media message has a caption, the caption text is shown instead of the label.
Interactive messages
WhatsApp allows sending interactive messages with buttons. These are displayed in the chat bubble as buttons below the message text. Interactive messages are generated by the AI bot when presenting options to the contact, such as property search results.
Size limits
| Type | Maximum size |
|---|---|
| Images | 16 MB |
| Videos | 16 MB |
| Audios | 16 MB |
| Documents | 16 MB |
These limits are set by Meta's WhatsApp API. If you try to send a file that exceeds 16 MB, Trochai will show an error before attempting to send.
The 16 MB limit applies to the file in its original format. For long videos, consider compressing the file before sending.
Reaction messages
Contacts can send reactions (emojis) to specific messages. Reactions are processed internally but are not displayed as separate bubbles in the conversation to keep the history clean.
